Neuromodulators

Injections

Montreal - Laval

Overview

Neuromodulators are purified protein injectables that are Health Canada and FDA-approved for temporarily treating frown lines. The injectable has also been approved for use by Health Canada to reduce or eliminate forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet (wrinkles near the lateral aspect of the eyes). It is also commonly used to treat prominent muscle bands in the neck.

Neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve impulses and temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for wrinkles, giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed, and youthful appearance.

Ideal Candidates

Generally, candidates for neuromodulator treatment include healthy individuals (between the ages of 18 and 70) with realistic expectations who would like to temporarily improve:

  • Wrinkles in the upper third of the face, including the forehead and glabellar region (“frown” lines)
  • Lateral canthal lines (“crow’s feet”)
  • Mild wrinkling of the face

The Procedure

Injections are performed in an outpatient setting and require no form of anaesthesia. Although no anesthesia is required, a numbing cream is applied to the more sensitive areas to make the procedure almost painless.

The Neuromodulator is injected directly into the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. (i.e. temporary wrinkles that appear during facial animation, such as frowning or squinting). A very fine needle is used to minimize pain associated with injection.

The procedure takes approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. The effects of the injections last for approximately 3-6 months.

Pretreatment Preparation

Our nurse injector will perform a thorough medical evaluation during your preoperative consultation to ensure that you are medically fit for this type of cosmetic procedure. injections. He will also revise your medication list, as certain medications may need to be temporarily stopped prior to injections.

Recovery

Since the procedure is done as an office procedure, no recovery time is needed, and patients can return to work or other activities immediately. We recommend that you do not lean/bend over for the first few hours post-injection and do not rub or massage the treated areas after your procedure in order to avoid having the product migrate to other areas of your face. Neuromodulator injections take effect in as early as 5-7 days with full effects apparent at 2 weeks. This cosmetic procedure typically lasts for 3 to 6 months, with most individuals gradually returning to their former state. The nurse injector will likely recommend the treatment be repeated every 3 to 4 months.
